Smell it! Take a whiff…
… good, right?
Sweet, seductive, refreshing, romantic. Never mind the pollen, the dust, the bees, the bugs. Sometimes you just got to get in there, take it in, risk a sneeze or a sting. What would life be without some risk? Where’s the fun without the exposure, the vulnerability?
Spring arrives and we crawl out of our cocoons squinting at the sunlight, wary of the blooms and buds. You get drawn in to the perfume of blossoms on leaves; you long for that aroma signifying new life, growth, energy. You totally get why the bees and bugs are drawn in too, so you don’t mind them so much. We’re all taking chances.
Making art is not so different. Storms of words and images swirl for what feels like an eternity before settling, sinking in, absorbing. And the Artist takes a chance on the blank page or empty canvas hoping for blossoms that bear fruit, definitely risking stings. Or getting sneezed on.
Within the links in our Spring 2024 Issue 25 https://thievingmagpie.org/category/current-parliament/, you will experience the fruit of much risk. Thoughful essays; whimsical poetry; colorful mind-bending images; and, as always, some fantastic stories with fun, deep and true characters trying to feel their way and not get stung too bad.
