Johnny Elder – Bio

Johnny Elder of Melbourne, Australia, is an ancient journalist, ornithologist and clumsy ballroom dancer. He’s enjoyed a fairly adventurous life, including surviving a shipwreck in Antarctica, and several New York summers as a foreign correspondent. For twenty-one years he was senior writer with The Sunday Age newspaper, where he developed a special interest in the possibilities of grace, transcendence, and what might be taken to feel like the word of God, in the aftermath of tragedy. He is writing a wild reworking of The Odyssey with a very young female protagonist, referencing not just Greek myths, but fairy tales, and several not-entirely authentic Biblical characters. His poetry has been published or will soon be published at The Bangalore Review, First Literary Review-East, Merion West, La Piccioletta Barca and Eunoia Review.
