Julie Rico is originally from Detroit, Michigan, where she worked on the assembly line, and then at the World Headquarters of, General Motors in Public Relations. She came to Los Angeles with her BA in Journalism to show weird artists work. She now works at being a writer. Ms. Rico was once an acclaimed art gallery owner in the Los Angeles and Santa Monica areas. See www.juliericogallery.com. Ms. Rico ran and owned art galleries from 1988-2010 and contributed to the transformation and revitalization of downtown Los Angeles as a principal of Julie Rico Gallery and Weeneez on Gallery Row. Ms. Rico directed activities from conception through construction and operations of the space, which included two restaurants. She has curated over 40 exhibitions at this venue and 200 over the span of her career. • Seminal exponent and promoter of the “Lowbrow” art movement.

• Produced the Los Angeles Art Festival in the summer of 2005. The three-day event included large-scale outdoor art installations, flat art from 50 artists, pop-up booths for arts and crafts on the streets of the Arts District and three musical performance stages.
